The 67 Music NW instrument exchange. The call goes out!

by SkOt Cranmore on January 5, 2010

Happy New Year and welcome to 2010.  I hope everyone is bright eyed and bushy tailed.  Ready to meet the coming year head on with a big smile.
To get right to the point, we are now revealing our new program!  The 67 Music instrument exchange.  This ongoing program is designed to pass along our musicial traditions to our youth.  Many of them have a desire to learn Celtic music but can’t afford an instrument and/or lessons.   As supporters of the Celtic community, we can all help.
Here’s How It Works:
Folks who have old or unused acoustic instruments donate them to the program.  They are then cleaned up, repaired, and made ready to play.  Finally, the instruments are given to kids who have a desire and ambition to learn to play.  Support is also given in the way of introductory lessons from local Celtic musicians.  We will be following their progress and giving updates, and if all goes well, plans are to hold a performance showcasing the young musicians.
Here’s What We Need:
First and foremost, we need the help and support of everyone in the NW Celtic community.  The only way this will work is if we all take part!
Instruments:  If you have unwanted acoustic instuments in workable, or near workable condition, please consider donating them.  guitars, mandolins, banjos.  violins, accordians, flutes.  bodhrans, bagpipes, recorders.  Whatever you have, contact us!  Everyone who donates and instrument will be kept informed as to who recieved it, how they are doing, and will be invited to the performance.
Nominees:  Do you know of a young person who may be a canidate for this program?  Please nominate them!  We are seeking girls and boys who show a strong desire to learn.  We seek those who love the music and would potentially excel at their instrument.  Contact us with your choice!
Volunteers, Funding, And Sponsors:  Celtic musicians, can you donate a little of your time?  Maybe give 3 complimentary introductory lessons?  Can you repair instruments?  We also need volunteers to pick and deliver instruments.  Just as important, we need funding.  If you can make a money donation it will be put to good use.  Businesses, please consider sponsoring this worthy program!  Contact us for details, it’s not expensive to be included and show your support.
As I said, it’s going to take the cooperation of all of us to make this happen.  Evryone who gets involved in any way will be on our upcoming wall of honor as a supporter and volunteer.  I ask that we all come together to pass our great musicial traditions on to our youth!  Thanks.

I’ve got a bodhran which seriously needs re- skinning or something- I don’t play it cos the skin is too tight- but if somebody could find a use for it they’d be VERY welcome! Get in touch (I’m in the Czech Republic which might make the postage a bit expensive)

I have no instrument to spare, but I would be interested in volunteering for the “pick & deliver” part!
